What to Do When White Earphones Get Dirty
After some use, white earphones can get dirty and turn gray or black. What should you do? Music has always been one of the core functions of smartphones, and as the iPhone shaped music-listening habits worldwide, other manufacturers began including white earphones with their phones. But white earphones have an unavoidable drawback: they get dirty especially easily and turn gray or black. Phone earphone cables are usually made of TPU. Earphone cables made from this material are elastic, smooth to the touch, resistant to scratches, and less likely to yellow. A simple way to clean dirty earphone cables is to rub them with an eraser or wipe them with a towel soaked in hot water containing detergent. Either method can lift the grime. If you are not satisfied with the result, try a foam cleaner intended for car interiors and similar surfaces. Here is how: 1. Coil the earphones into a small bundle and put them in a plastic bag. 2. Cover them with foam cleaner. It looks like shaving foam but sprays with considerable force. 3. Gently knead them by hand. 4. Leave them for two hours. You should then find that the liquefied foam has turned yellow and the earphones are white again. 5. Take the earphones out and wipe off the remaining residue with a tissue. Earphones are consumable items; wear and damage over time are normal, so keep that in perspective.
