A Major Home Network Makeover
The Cat 5 cables inside the walls from the house's original renovation (not even Cat 5e) were far too slow, so I decided to drill holes and run my own wiring. I used 100 meters of AMP Cat 6 cable and 30 meters of fiber. I replaced the main router and moved both the router and NAS (I don't even have the energy to rant about using China Telecom's HS8145V ONT as the main router). I ran two Ethernet cables from the ONT to the main router for failover. The ONT's remaining ports connect to the Cat 5 cables in the walls for IPTV. Since the fiber would run along the bedroom wall covering, I chose fiber over Ethernet cable there because it was thinner and looked neater.
