iOS 12 Beta Update-Prompt Bug Gets Worse: It Appears on Every Unlock, with a Workaround

People running the iOS 12 beta on an iPhone or iPad got an annoying surprise today: Apple kept asking them to update a system that was already up to date. Affected users see this message: “A new iOS update is now available. Please update from the iOS 12 beta.” The problem is that these users are already running the latest version of iOS, and there is no other software update available.

Since the latest beta was released on August 27, beta testers have occasionally seen this pop-up, but today it has become much more frequent. Users now see it every time they unlock an iPhone or iPad running the beta, so they have to dismiss it each time. Developer Guilherme Rambo believes a bug in the latest update makes the iOS beta think its expiration date is approaching, causing the pop-up. It is not yet clear when a fix will be available.
